See the Glory Ahead: Lessons from the Transfiguration

Hey everyone,

Today the Church celebrates the Transfiguration of the Lord.

Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. His face shines like the sun, His clothes become white as light, Moses and Elijah appear, and the Father’s voice declares, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

St. Leo the Great explained the purpose clearly: the Transfiguration was given so the apostles would not lose heart when the Cross came. They needed a real glimpse of the glory that awaited on the other side of suffering. That same pattern still holds for Catholic families on the long climb toward financial independence.

The daily work of budgeting, cutting lifestyle creep, and investing can feel ordinary and uphill. Building real financial margin is the practical way of reaching that mountain top. It lets you see the glory ahead — freedom to serve, rest, give, and raise children without the constant low-grade panic about the next bill.

Why margin is the mountain view

Without a gap between what you earn and what you spend, every decision stays at ground level. A car repair, a medical bill, or a chance to help someone in need feels like a crisis. Margin changes the view. It is the quiet surplus that lets you act from trust instead of scarcity.

  • Decide once what “enough” looks like for housing, vehicles, and weekly spending — then protect that number when income rises.
  • Automate a fixed percentage into savings and investments the day pay arrives. The surplus is safe before lifestyle can claim it.
  • Keep a real emergency fund. It is not lack of faith; it is the practical buffer that turns unexpected costs into manageable moments.
  • Review the numbers monthly with calm eyes. Clarity, not control, is what lets you say yes to the people and callings God places in front of you.

The apostles did not stay on the mountain forever. They came back down and walked the road to Jerusalem. Margin works the same way. It does not remove ordinary life; it gives you the strength and perspective to live it without anxiety ruling the heart.

Keep the climb honest and simple

Seeing the numbers clearly is part of the gift. A simple, shared budget tool helps the whole family stay on the same mountain path without constant friction. Monarch Money makes that tracking straightforward so the focus stays on the glory ahead, not the spreadsheets:

Use whatever tool keeps the process honest and low-friction. The goal is the same one the Transfiguration gave the apostles: a real glimpse of the freedom that waits on the other side of faithful, steady work.

Financial freedom really is for everyone — including your family.
